Permanent Collection
The permanent collection of the Art Museum of South Texas contains more than 1,300 works of art in the media of painting, sculpture, prints,
drawings, collages, mixed media, ceramics, and textiles. The focus of the
Permanent Collection is on fine art and craft of the Americas with particular
interest in Texas and surrounding states, including those in Mexico.
A particular subcollection of interest is the DOROTHY HOOD COLLECTION. In
2001, AMST became the recipient of a major portion of the paintings, library,
and personal documents of Dorothy Hood, a Texas-born modernist who died in
2000. From the Hood Collection, 30 paintings, prints and collages have been
acessioned into the AMST Permanent Collection with some 900 works being held as
assets. The STUDY COLLECTION is separate body of works under AMST'S management,
and is comprised of art works that are deemed of educational or scholarly value
for the historical, critical, technical or thematic information represented in
each work.
